I headed for home over the Easter weekend. There’s a piano in the front room and my cello too. No London sirens, just the countryside quiet, a clock, and the washing machine. Something had to come of all that! Here it is, just a jam.
We’re mixing something for you all to have over the coming month, stay tuned. Sorry we’ve been quiet, very busy recently.

It’s been a little while since we gave an update. Last week we played a fantastic show with our good friends Matthew & The Atlas at Union Chapel, before they headed off on tour with The Civil Wars. It was an unforgettable show for us, and it is always an honour to play with that band. Here is a pic we took after with our friend Luke and Andy, stalwarts at OFE gigs.
We also played a new song called ‘Shallow Lakes’. Here is a vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of4rR-saoJw

New Music: Our Mother
Our Mother, judging by this tune ‘Lionosx’ are worth following. First impressions; think a heady mix of Department of Eagles, Nicolas Jaar and modern minimalist piano (Nils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds). There is a hint of Bon Iver in the glitchy, high harmonies too. I love the way the beat is withheld right to the end and then…vibe.
They play Short Nights at the Hootananny in Brixton this coming Tuesday 28th Feb.
They join the exclusive club of bands whose name begins with ‘Our’. They might even prove they deserve it. I kid, this shit’s exciting.

Since its release last summer, ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’ has become one of my favourite records. Each song has a personal memory attached to it but somehow feels fresh with every listen. Alongside it, and equally important to me, is ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’.
I found this last night, trawling remixes of his stuff on Soundcloud. This groove seems perfect for those 5am moments - as a comment says, the sunrises.
Try it out,

Strolled about London town to this record earlier, it was freezing but made everything feel like summer… such a vibe! Its grown on me a bunch over the last few months. Gutted that we’re gonna miss him on the 21st Feb at Koko, we’re playing in Brighton that night, go if you can!
EP is coming along, Oscar currently mucking about with some electric gee ambience in the flat, sounding cool…

Jeff Buckley has written some incredible songs, Mojo Pin, Lover You Should Have Come Over, Last Goodbye… the list continues. He made a certain Leonard Cohen song his own too but for me this stands up to it.
A tricky one to cover, especially solo, but he nails it. Enjoy

SNOW!
In other news, its been a busy few days for OFE, with video sessions and a fantastic gig courtesy of The Local and The Line Of Best Fit. Shhh! Festival lived up to its name and reputation!
Cheers to our friend and fellow believer Jon, for the hook up for the show, and for this little bit of winter magic, Frahm-ed up as is to be expected. Shot in Bologna, Italy.

Here is a great double exposed photo that our friend Luke took at The Jackalope a week or so ago. You should be able to glimpse Ant, and the ever present Dave Elvis.
In other news, the EP is progressing, with vocal takes for Spires now complete.

”…I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.”
T.S. Eliot - The Waste Land, The Burial of the Dead
There aren’t words to describe the depth and brilliance of this poetry, I’ll just say that it knocks me sideways every time I read it.

This is a tune by French hip-hop producer Onra, who took a bunch of old Chinese and Vietnamese vinyl records and made an album of stuff like this.
Thanks to my bro Mark for the tip off. O
